Lessons

  1. 9.1Cloud building blocks: compute, storage and networkEvery cloud sells the same handful of building blocks under different names. Learn the blocks once and you can build on any cloud. 30 min Scale journey
  2. 9.2VPCs and subnets: your private network in the cloudYour own private network inside the cloud, where only the front door faces the internet and everything valuable stays out of sight. 30 min
  3. 9.3Regions and availability zones"The cloud" is real buildings in real places. Where yours are decides speed, what failures you survive, and which laws apply. 30 min
  4. 9.4The cloud provider map: AWS, Azure and GCPAWS, Azure and Google Cloud look wildly different, but they sell the same dozen building blocks. Learn the blocks, and the names become labels. 30 min Trade-off matrix

On the job: try it on your own project

Using read-only access, ask Claude Code to help you list what your app runs on in the cloud: compute, databases, storage buckets, networks, regions and zones. Note what is public, what sits in a private subnet and what has only one zone. Write a cloud inventory with one risk you want to raise at your next team meeting.
