Lessons

  1. 11.1Docker explainedWhy software that works on your laptop breaks on a server, and how Docker packs everything into one box that runs the same everywhere. 30 min Docker terminal
  2. 11.2Dockerfiles and layers: fast builds, small and safe imagesA few habits in your Dockerfile turn slow, huge, risky images into fast, small, safe ones. 30 min Docker terminal
  3. 11.3Volumes and networks: where container data lives and how containers talkContainers forget everything when they're replaced. Here's where your data should live instead, and how containers find each other. 30 min Docker terminal
  4. 11.4Docker Compose: a whole local stack in one fileYour app, its database, its cache and its worker, all started with one command from one file. 30 min Docker terminal

On the job: try it on your own project

Ask Claude Code to explain your project's Dockerfile and docker-compose file line by line, then to check image size, layer order, the base image version, and whether any secret is baked into the image. Write a short container review: three findings ranked by risk, and one change you would make on a branch to speed up builds.
